Festive Fun at ACM Service Users' Christmas Party!

Dowlais’ Guest Keen Club provided the venue for Age Concern Morgannwg’s annual Christmas party for service users on 1st December.

Some thirty older people drawn from across Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Bridgend county boroughs enjoyed a delicious three course meal in a festive atmosphere, with after dinner entertainments including bingo and a raffle adding to the sense of fun. An excellent performance by local singer Alisia Jones gave everyone a chance to get up and dance.

Also in attendance was the Leader of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, Jeff Edwards MBE OStJ JP, who was able to spend time chatting to guests. Transport to and from the event was provided free of charge and every guest went home with a Christmas gift. Age Concern Morgannwg staff members received excellent feedback from a number of guests, including 84-year-old Jim who claimed to have had a “lovely time” and praised the work of the staff who deliver his service all year round.

Age Concern Morgannwg would like to thank Peggy and the staff at the Guest Keen for their hard work, hospitality and generosity. Special mention must also go to Burlesque Bohème Productions, who helped raise the funds for the party with their superb Disco Inferno cabaret event held in October. The contribution of the entertainers at the party also helped to make this a truly memorable occasion for service users and staff alike.

Underlying all of the fun was a serious message. It is important to remember that the winter months can also be a very difficult time, especially for older people. Many of them will have limited opportunities to celebrate Christmas, but events like the service users’ party can help older people to socialise and enjoy a festive day out.
